Nothing But The Very Best!!!

This morning I was reading in my Bible about the very first miracle that Jesus performed on earth.  He was a guest at a wedding in Cana in Galilee and at this wedding they run out of wine.  He turns six stone jars, filled with water, holding twenty to thirty gallons each, into wine.  

Now I have read this story many times but it never occurred to me before how LARGE those stone jars were.  Each stone jar held twenty to thirty gallons of water!!!  I realized how much this was because water is a precious commodity here in Colorado.  We have a large water dispenser in our kitchen that we use for our drinking water.  The dispenser holds a 5 gallon jug of water and when the jug is empty you have to switch the empty one out for a full one.  For me, 5 gallons of water is heavy to move around so when I read in the Bible about the stone water jars holding 20 to 30 gallons of water all I could say to myself is "Wow! Those were HUGE jars!".  

In realizing how huge these stone water jars were I immediately thought...."Leave it to God to perform a miracle in no small way".   The Bible says that there were 6 stone water jugs and Jesus turned the water in these jugs into wine for the wedding.  Six stone water jugs, each holding 30 gallons, is 180 gallons of water turned into wine! That is a lot of wine! And...the Bible says that it was choice wine, not the cheap stuff, but the very best!!! I thought to myself, "Of course it would be choice wine! Nothing but the best!!!"  When Jesus intervenes in our lives, He gives us nothing but the very best.  Reading this gave me joy, peace, hope and gratitude. I am so thankful that I have a personal relationship with God who I can trust, who I know will only give me His best and who intervenes in our lives to draw us to Him.  

I also thought of my life as being a vessel.  Sometimes it is filled with just plain old ordinary water and Jesus wants to fill my life with nothing but choice wine.  He wants to fill me up with Himself!!! In filling me with Himself he does not want to fill me with only 5 gallons but with 180 gallons!!! You get the idea...I am not really talking about wine here or actual gallons,  I am talking about Jesus filling my life with Himself to the point of overflowing....where Jesus shines, not me.  

I also thought of the families and young adults who will come to live at the Soaring Wings property here in Colorado.  I expect that they will come to us with broken lives.... broken, empty vessels if you will.  They will need love, acceptance and time in order to heal so their vessels can be filled.  We will do our best to love them, accept them and give them time but ultimately it will be Jesus who will need to intervene in their lives and bring them to Himself in order for their lives to be filled with the very best that Jesus has for them.  I know that Jesus, who turned the 6 stone water jars into the choicest wine, can also turn broken, empty lives into lives filled with joy, peace and hope.   My prayer is that Soaring Wings Ministries will be an instrument in bringing people to Jesus so that He can fill them up with the very best and this very best is HIMSELF!
