IT NEVER FAILS
Every time we give out Blessing Bags there is always one person who remains in my heart, mind and prayers for a very long time. Yesterday was one of those times. We were leaving the Walmart parking lot and saw a man with a cardboard sign. All the sign said was “hungry”. We reached into our back seat and grabbed one of our Blessing Bags to give to him. As he approached our car I was able to get a close look into his face. No longer was he just “a man” or just “a person” with a cardboard sign. I could see that he was a young man, a very dirty young man, and a very dirty young man with a mouth full of decaying teeth. Not a pretty sight. My heart was broken. Even in his desperate and neglected condition he was so very polite as he kept saying “thank you” to me over and over again. Even with his mouth full of decaying teeth he had a big beautiful smile and even with the dirtiest face I have ever seen he had sparkling, joyful eyes. It never fails, whenever we reach out to the homeless we no longer see “the homeless”. We see their faces, we see “them” and we see a glimpse of what could be. Written by: Anita Rennells |
