I have been working on painting the outside of our house and as I work I have been wondering about the young adults that we will be serving through Soaring Wings Ministries. Have you ever spent anytime thinking about homeless people? Have you ever wondered what circumstances in life have brought them to homelessness? I have been thinking about this a lot lately and have been trying to give faces to these young adults. I wonder how old they will be. I wonder what their dreams and hopes are. I wonder if they will have ever had a family that loved and cared for them. I wonder if they may still have a family who loves and care about them. I wonder what job skills they have. I wonder what they will be interested in. I wonder if they will be shy or outgoing. I wonder what their backgrounds are. I wonder if they will be honest or deceitful. I wonder if they will have children. I wonder. I wonder. I wonder. Maybe it will be a young woman who has never had a family that cared about her. Maybe it will be a young man with a wife and children who can't find a job. Maybe it will be a single Mom or Dad who doesn't know how to juggle working and caring for her kids. Maybe it will be someone who has never held down a job. Maybe it will be someone who had a fantastic job and lost it. Maybe it will be someone just out of the military who is struggling to get on their feet. The circumstances that lead people to be homeless are many and once again I am led to think about Ed's statement about helping people....."It isn't rocket science". No matter what their circumstance, no matter what their age, interest, talent skills, personality, hopes or dreams.......all people need love and care. People do not do well without someone to love them and care for them. We all need to know that someone has our back. Just think about the young adults you know who have gone through a difficult time and ended up living back home for a while to get themselves back on their feet. Now think about what would have happened to these young adults if they did not have a caring family to help them. Homelessness. It happens so quickly, easily and it doesn't take "rocket science" to help them. It takes time, money, love and care. So if you are "wondering" what we will be doing to help these young adults at "Soaring Wings" don't think about rocket science, just think about what people really need.....shelter, food, love, care, guidance and prayer. That is what we will be doing at Soaring Wings. I need to get back to my house painting............I wonder who will be living at Soaring Wings.....a young woman.....a young man.....what will they look like.......will they have children??? I wonder. I paint. I wonder. I paint. I wonder. I wonder. I wonder.

Ed is retiring in 2012. We are moving to Colorado in 2013. The reality of this situation is slowly beginning to settle into our hearts and minds. Many people have come up to us and asked us about "Soaring Wings" and what we will be doing out in Colorado. I always love it when people ask me to tell them about "Soaring Wings"! It is always such a pleasure to talk about something that I am passionate about and excited about! I have found that I have an increased sense of joy and confidence in telling people about Soaring Wings and our plans to help homeless young adults. I guess living in reality is a good thing!!!!! Anyways, it is also so interesting to observe how people react to our plans for Soaring Wings. I can tell you right now that I can instantly tell which people "get it" and totally understand what we plan to do and why we plan to do it. The ones who "get it" are such an encouragement to us. It is not easy to give up everything that is familiar to us and everything that we love to move to Colorado and so the encouragers are SUCH A BLESSING TO US!!!!! They give us strength to move forward with confidence and excitement. They let us know that is ok if we don't have all the answers. They remind us that God is leading the way and that He is faithful. They also are willing to help by praying for us, donating financially to Soaring Wings and by offering to travel out to Colorado to help us. So to all you encouragers out there.....THANK-YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I have always said that Ed and I cannot develop Soaring Wings on our own. We need encouraging people to come along side us. We need encouragers to keep us going when we feel overwhelmed. We need encouraging people to pray for us, to donate to Soaring Wings and to come visit us out in Colorado (bring work gloves, sunscreen, a water bottle, a hat and a Bible because we will put you to WORK and we will have FUN too!!!!) We are truly excited for all that God has planned for Soaring Wings and the homeless young adults out in Colorado and we are so excited to share this journey with EVERYONE!!!!
